Louise Amanda Harman was born December 19 1985 the second of Aden and Lynette Harman (Nee: Parsons) three children. She grew up in the Wembley section of NW London living in the rough Chalkhill Estate council flats. Influenced by her Father’s love of punk music and her Mother’s Salt n’ Pepper albums she would practice performing in front of a mirror with a hair brush as her microphone.

At 14 she started writing her own raps which she would post on different internet forums. One of these forums was So Solid Crew where she met her long time DJ Frampster. Around this time while supporting a friend who was having problems with her Boyfriend she noticed a Sovereign ring at his house, putting on the ring Lady Sovereign was born.

At 16 she left school with no qualifications. With her Father’s urging she joined a local community group that was putting together a short educational film called X-ED. Sov got the lead and convinced the producers that she could put together the soundtrack for the film. The demos of her soundtrack ended up in the hands of music producer Medasyn .

He teamed her with Shystie, Frost P , Zuz Rock on the Female MC vs Male MC “The Battle” which was released by Casual Records in 2003. The singles A little bit of shhh, 9 to 5 and Chi Ching soon followed as well as the internet only free styles Tango and Cheeky. She appeared with the Ordinary Boys on their cover of her 9 to 5 single.

In 2005 she appeared on the album Run the Road both as a solo artist as well as with the Streets. Later that year she released the EP Vertically Challenged on Chocolate Industries. She came to the attention of Def Jam records and after a meeting attended by Jay-Z LA Reid and Usher in late 2005 she became the 1st non-American female ever signed to the label. Her single Love me or Hate me was released by Def Jam in August 2006 and hit #66 on the Billboard charts in it’s second week of release and hitting #1 on the dance club play chart .

The video for Love me or Hate me reached #1 on MTV’s TRL becoming the UK 1st rap artist to achieve that honor. Her 1st LP Public Warning was released on October 31st 2006 peaking at #48 on the Billboard Charts.2007 saw her opening up for Gwen Stefani on her sweet escape tour. It was during that tour at an after party appearance in NY that Sov had a public breakdown, the stress of constantly promoting and doing the same things over and over got to her.

After finishing the tour on June 30th 2007 she did one show at Spiegelworld in NYC on July 7th 2007. She took a hiatus of over a year, well she got help for her stress and spent time reconnecting with friends and family. Def Jam and Sov parted ways during this time and she started her own label Midget Records which got a distribution deal with EMI. Her Album Jigsaw is the 1st release on Midget Records. She plans to find and sign new groups to the label.
